Index job postings on Google: the only officially supported content type

6 min read · updated 2026-04-20

When Google launched the Indexing API in 2018, it was explicitly for two content types: JobPosting and BroadcastEvent. Job sites have used it ever since to get postings into Google for Jobs search within minutes — far faster than waiting for a normal crawl. If your site posts jobs, this is the highest-leverage use of IndexerNow you can run.

Setup requirements

  1. Every URL you push must have valid JobPosting structured data. Run the Rich Results Test to confirm.
  2. The job posting must be live (not expired, not removed).
  3. The URL must be canonical, indexable, and not behind a login.
  4. The site must be a verified property in the signed-in user's Search Console.

The publish + push flow

  1. Publish the job in your ATS / job board.
  2. Confirm the job's public URL is live and the JobPosting schema is valid.
  3. Push the URL through IndexerNow's Index tab. This is the URL_UPDATED case.
  4. When the job is taken down, push the same URL again — IndexerNow supports it as a notify-removal, and the JobPosting must have a validThrough date that has passed.
Removal pushes count

Each removal notification counts against your indexing quota the same way a publish does. Plan for it in your daily budget.

Why this matters for Google for Jobs

Google for Jobs displays time-sensitive listings. A job posted on Monday and indexed on Thursday is three days of missed applications. The Indexing API closes that window to minutes — and because JobPosting is an officially supported content type, Google honors it more reliably than it honors generic page pushes.

Volume planning

Job boards with high turnover hit Google's 200/day per-project cap quickly. For very high volume, talk to Google about a quota increase, or accept that your daily new-postings volume defines your indexing cadence. IndexerNow shows you exactly how much quota you've used today.

Sign in with Google, paste your URLs, ship them through Google's Indexing API. Free daily quota, $9.99 for a 50-URL pack.
