Squarespace: get your pages indexed by Google faster

Squarespace gives you clean templates, automatic sitemaps, and sane defaults — enough that a lot of Squarespace owners assume indexing is handled. It mostly is, eventually. But Squarespace doesn't ping Google when you publish, so new pages can sit in the crawl queue for days or weeks. Here's how to close that gap.

Get the Squarespace basics right first

1. Confirm the page isn't hidden or disabled — hidden pages and unlinked pages won't be indexed.
2. Connect a custom domain; the built-in .squarespace.com URL is not where you want to build search equity.
3. Verify your domain in Google Search Console (Squarespace makes adding the verification straightforward).
4. Submit your Squarespace sitemap (yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml) in Search Console.

Squarespace-specific gotchas

• Check Settings for any "hide site from search engines" option left on from when the site was in development — it adds a site-wide noindex.
• Squarespace's SEO panel lets you set per-page titles and descriptions; blank ones produce weak, auto-generated snippets.
• Pages not added to navigation (or not linked anywhere) become orphans Google may never find — link them.
• Cover pages and some template elements can be thin on indexable text; make sure each page has real content.

Confirm and triage

Run a status check on new pages 24 hours after publishing. For a site refresh or migration, pull your whole sitemap and bulk-check which pages are indexed — Squarespace migrations (especially domain changes) are a common cause of pages silently dropping out.
